About The Event

The Canadian Botanical Association's (CBA) annual conference gathers 80-120 motivated members (professors, students, researchers and professionals, naturalists) to share their latest research findings. This year's edition will be held under the theme "Botany on the rock for conservation and sustainability" and will encompass a wide range of botanical research fields, including physiology, taxonomy, phylogeny, mycology, plant development and ecology. To underline inter- and intra-specific interactions at the 2025 edition, inspiring presentations from the world's leading experts in plant and associated organisms will be offered.

More Information

The 61st Annual Canadian Botanical Association Meeting and Conference will take place at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, located on the easternmost tip of Canada. Here's how you can get there:

By Air
St. John’s International Airport (YYT) is well-served by domestic and international flights, with connections to major Canadian cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, as well as international routes to the U.S. and Europe.

Airlines flying into YYT include Air Canada, WestJet, and many other regional carriers.

By Sea
If you are travelling from mainland Canada, you can take a ferry from North Sydney (Nova Scotia) to either Port aux Basques or Argentia on Newfoundland's west coast. Please note the following travel times as you will have to drive across the island to St. John’s:

  • Port aux Basques to St. John’s: Approximately a 9-hour drive.
  • Argentia to St. John’s: Approximately a 1.5-hour drive.

Planning to rent a car for this trip? The best time to book it would be NOW as the car rentals are limited and are gone fast during the summer.

By Car
If you're already in Newfoundland, St. John’s is well-connected via the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1). Keep in mind that driving times can vary, and roads may be narrow or winding, especially in rural areas.

Notice of cancellation must be made in writing to registration@harlowagency.ca. A $75 cancellation fee will apply to all cancelled conference registrations.

The CBA is meant to be a welcoming and constructive forum for dialogue regarding all aspects of botany. As such, the CBA has adopted the following code of conduct as a way of encouraging respectful and inclusive behaviour amongst members and fostering inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility in our community.

In being a member of the Canadian Botanical Association we encourage you to read, understand and abide by these principles:

  • We are all responsible for ensuring an equitable representation in science.
  • We welcome people of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities.
  • We respect the different perspectives present in scientific discourse.  We regularly reflect on how our remarks and responses may be interpreted.
  • We will listen to and respect requests to behave in a different manner.

The CBA/ABC represents Canada’s researchers and scholars in the plant sciences from various disciplines including ecology, genomics, classification, development, and teaching.

CBA/ABC provides formal, expert, peer-reviewed and credible input to national, provincial and local governments on matters pertaining to botany. In executing its mission, CBA/ABC confirms its will to foster a culture of inclusivity and equity in all of its activities. These include but are not limited to participation to conferences, equitable representation in major symposia, eligibility of prizes, bursaries and awards, and memberships. CBA/ABC is pleased to welcome and encourages participation by members regardless of gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, disability, religion or age.

As part of its commitment, CBA/ABC will encourage organizers of symposia or panels to ensure a balanced female and male representation in the invited speakers; promote diverse representation on the board of directors and any other committees; and strive that when seeking nominations for prizes and awards, both male and female nominations are encouraged to be submitted and shall be considered equally.
