Bert has been a Social Worker for the past 35 years. His lifelong goal has been to bring an understanding of the Canadian Indigenous peoples’ story to mainstream society. His hope is that a better understanding will mean an improved relationship between mainstream Canadians and Indigenous people. Bert continues to do this work in his consulting business, Auger Cree Consulting.
Prior to this, Bert worked with the Alberta Government for 25 years, in Senior Administration for 21 years, including co-leading a ground-breaking Aboriginal Recruitment and Retention Initiative. Bert has also been in Senior Administration for Whitefish Lake First Nation for 5 years. Bert graduated from the Grant MacEwan Social Work Program in 1986.
Bert is a Cree man and speaks the Cree and English languages fluently. He lives in Edmonton, Alberta and is a member of the Whitefish Lake First Nation # 459.
Bert has been learning from Elders (his Grandfathers) since he was a young boy. He is currently working as an Elder for several organizations in Alberta.
