Description
Many organizations often need to collaborate and work with others to provide more holistic or wrap-around services. This becomes even more important as resources and the availability of professionals in the health and social sectors become scarcer. However, organizations and those they work with may be subject to different privacy and other legislation, or in some cases, may not have any legislative oversight. The result is an environment that creates complexity when it comes to the sharing of personal and health information that is necessary to provide consistent, holistic care when more than one organization is involved. The Information Sharing Framework (the Framework) was developed through the Converge Mental Health Coalition to enhance the degree of collaboration and integration among client-serving organizations providing social- and health-based supports across all relevant sectors. The Framework provides guidance in how to apply the legislation and manage information appropriately; guidance on areas to consider in adapting policies and practices to work more effectively with others; and tools to use in the process. This session will provide an overview of the Framework, outlining both how the privacy legislation landscape can be navigated to enable the sharing of necessary information where required, and identify a number of areas that organizations working together need to consider as they implement or enhance their collaborative and integrated service delivery.
