This session will explore what a roadmap to achieving the vision of a 40% Reduction in Embodied Carbon in new buildings by 2030, set by the World Green Building Council, should include in Canada from many perspectives. There has been a tremendous amount of great work across Canada in developing policy, data and guidelines, and practical approaches to assessing and reducing embodied carbon in construction. Panelists from leading jurisdictions and industry experts from leading LCA consultancies, research centres, and architecture firms will provide their perspectives on what it will take to accelerate embodied carbon reductions in construction. The discussion will focus on best practices in policy, design, and what data and tools are required to meet this ambitious target, and how governments and industry can prepare for potential embodied carbon requirements in future building codes.
