Rural Alberta communities are deeply connected — but increasingly stretched. Seniors are experiencing isolation, family care partners are navigating burnout, and local organizations are working hard within fragmented systems. This work reflects FCSS's core mandate of prevention and early intervention — supporting individuals and families before challenges escalate into crisis.

The Helping Hands Hub is a community-led, technology-enabled model currently being implemented across four rural regions, strengthening community capacity through better coordination — not more services. Anchored by the Tofield and Area Health Services Foundation as the fiscal host and backbone organization, the Hub brings together FCSS, municipalities, volunteers, and community partners into a shared, sustainable ecosystem of care.

In this session, leadership from participating FCSS offices will share their lived experience leading this work on the ground — highlighting how understanding local strengths, services, and community connections, alongside co-design and cross-sector collaboration, can be integrated into existing programs and community engagement efforts.

Participants will gain practical insights into how local leadership, supported by strategic partners, can create meaningful impact: reducing isolation, increasing social inclusion and belonging, supporting care partners, strengthening volunteer engagement, and building a model that is designed to scale and sustain beyond initial funding. The model reflects the unique realities of rural communities, including geography, capacity, and access barriers, and directly aligns with FCSS priorities by strengthening social inclusion, building community capacity, and enhancing access to supports for vulnerable populations.
