Speaker Bio
Allonna (Loni) Harker is a Scientific Associate with the Palix Foundation, where she supports the application of brain science to policy and practice. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Behavioural Neuroscience and is currently a PhD Candidate in Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge.

Allonna’s research focuses on the often-overlooked influence of paternal experiences during the preconception period, examining how these experiences can biologically shape brain development and behavior in the next generation, sometimes in protective ways, and sometimes with adverse effects. Her work contributes to a growing body of evidence on the intergenerational transmission of health and the importance of early, upstream interventions.

In addition to her research, Allonna has a strong passion for teaching and knowledge mobilization. Over the past six years, she has served as an Instructor III in the School of Liberal Education at the University of Lethbridge, where she has introduced undergraduate students to the Brain Story Certification Course, an accessible, science-based framework that explains how experiences shape brain development and resilience across the life course.

A passionate advocate for bridging science and real-world change, Allonna brings a warm and engaging presence to her work with students, professionals, and community organizations alike. Outside of her professional pursuits, she finds joy in spending time with her three children and eight grandchildren, camping in the outdoors, and exploring new places through travel.
