Dr. Catherine Eichwald is a group leader at the Institute of Virology, University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland. She received her Ph.D. in 2003 under the supervision of Dr. Oscar R. Burrone at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Trieste, Italy. Her research was dedicated to studying the rotavirus NSP5 phosphorylation mechanism and formation of rotavirus viroplasms. Then, she moved to Harvard Medical School, MA, USA, to pursue a postdoc under the supervision of Dr. Max L. Nibert to study reovirus replication and viral factories. Finally, in 2008, She moved to Switzerland to focus her research on the molecular biology of rotavirus and reovirus, mainly focusing on the association and role of host components in the formation of viral factories.
