Session Information
Come with us to explore Limberlost Place, a 10-storey, exposed mass timber building at Georg Brown College in Toronto. Years ahead of Toronto's 2030 goals for sustainable design and performance for new developments, Limberlost is recognized as a global model for innovative mass timber construction. We’ll take you on a journey from conceptual design through construction into building occupancy and share final energy reports and performance of the finished building.
The presentation will explore many of the building’s ambitious sustainable strategies including: the vision for using made-in-Canada mass timber; the concept of harnessing deep lake energy from Lake Ontario to replace traditional fuel-fired systems; the design of two solar chimneys, the engines of the passive ventilation system; an overhaul of traditional institutional HVAC design and performance; the building’s energy modelling calculations pre- and post-construction; and various other intentional smart building and sustainable strategies.
