Speaker Bio
Brenda has lived in the Rimbey community her entire life. She and her husband of 39 years have raised their four children in the community and are now enjoying watching four of their grandchildren grow up and be actively involved in the same community. Brenda’s passion for seniors comes not only from growing up across the road from her grandparents, but also from her early work in the long-term care center, Rimbey Auxiliary Hospital. It was there that she learned how much seniors have to offer and how ageism affects their experiences. She attended Red Deer College and has been with Rimbey FCSS since 2000. She is currently the Health Care Programs Coordinator and focuses her time on the Home Care contract although she has worked in many of the FCSS programs and special projects. In the past Brenda was with the Home Support Program and worked to have this program become more sustainable. She has coordinated the Adult Day Support Program, the Compass program and is very knowledgeable about programming for seniors. Most recently Brenda was instrumental in bringing the program “Opening Minds Through Art” to her community, through the CIDC grant offered by AHS. This evidence-based program allows those living with dementia to express themselves through the “no fail” approach to art.
