Description

View two different short documentary films that highlight the issue of Ageism. Following the viewing, a facilitated tabletop discussion will take place.

First Film: Golden: the End of Ageism
We've made progress with the other 'isms' (racism, sexism) but ageism is still OK. Why? After all, not one of us is getting any younger. Yet the damaging stereotypes persist... in the workplace, healthcare, media and beyond. For minorities, age bias is discrimination “double jeopardy.” There is a growing global movement to end age bias and reawaken the joys of getting older. Golden: the End of Ageism explores this new frontier in civil rights.

Second Film: For the Love of Mary
The first time 97-year-old runner George Etzweiler completed the race up the northeast’s tallest peak, Mount Washington, he was 69 years old. Despite having a pacemaker, the State College, Pennsylvania resident continues to compete in the grueling 7.6-mile race up nearly 4,700 feet of paved road, breaking his own record each year for oldest finisher.
