Decarbonization and climate resiliency are complimentary. Operators, designers, builders, and owners need to proactively prepare for inevitable climate events alongside the implementation of decarbonization measures. This session will link the implications to asset management with the risk of being reactive vs proactive. The session will go through the best practices in climate risk evaluation for asset management, and demonstrate the value in strategic capital planning. The session will showcase the methodology and a case study of a climate risk impact assessment delivered for a national portfolio. The developed methodology references lessons and adaptations from the insurance industry, which has suffered significantly from the effects of climate change. By showcasing a repeatable method for not only assessing risks but taking action to mitigate those risks with a national portfolio case study, panelists will demonstrate that climate risk mitigation is not only necessary but good for business.
