David began his wildfire career in the 1900s as a crew member of BCWS’ Valhalla Unit Crew. After twelve fire seasons on the line, and following a brief stint as a journalist and writer, he entered the Provincial Government’s communications department where he held several roles as a Communications Director for different ministries. After 6 years with Government Communications and Public Engagement, David moved into a new position with the Ministry of Citizens’ Services as the Executive Director in the Real Property Division. After 5 years in that portfolio, he moved to the Ministry of Transportation where he managed diverse portfolios including executive roles with the Property and Land Management Branch, Pacific Gateway Branch, and as an Executive Lead establishing and reimagining its planning divisions. He returned “home” to BCWS as a member of its executive leadership team responsible for a portfolio that included: Organizational Development (training, learning, safety, and mental and physical health, and well being), Internal and External Communications, International Relations, and Indigenous Relations. He is the author of the best-selling non-fiction book, Coming Through Fire, published in 2001. In his “spare” time he enjoys playing tennis and music with his daughters and enjoying all the outdoor activities Vancouver Island has to offer on land and water.
